Happiness Books & Productions (Happiness Books) is an independent, 100% black women-owned company fostering quality storytelling. Our goal is to publish bold and relatable fiction and non-fiction by exceptional local authors. We are committed to discovering stories by underrepresented voices that entertain, inform, and innovatively tackle socio-political issues. We are particularly drawn to works with powerful cinematic potential, stories that can live beyond the page and resonate on screen.

Guided by our mission to nurture a love of reading beyond the classroom in South Africa, we also translate popular literature currently available in English and make it accessible to a wider audience in our indigenous languages. We are proud to celebrate a major milestone: Izinkabi: Yasho Inganono, Laphalala Igazi by Nathi Olifant (2024), translated by Sifiso Mzobe, has been named a joint winner of the 2025 Literary Translators Award, an exciting recognition of excellence in literary translation and storytelling.
